We've all been in the same position you're in now - arriving at our first training session, nervous, surrounded by strangers, and terrified you'll make a bit of a fool of yourself. Despite us all having been there, it didn't take each of us long before we felt completely at home in the club. To help remove some of those worries and make you feel part of the group from the get go, we've gathered some people who joined Mixed Netball last year to talk about their favourite memories, as well as giving some tips for how to make the most of your time with us.
"I feel like everyone is going to say that joining MN was one of the best decisions of first year, but I don’t think that’s coincidence or cliché. From the first few sessions I felt welcomed and included, and whatever your netball level you are guaranteed to have laughter and challenge at every session. I would go back to my flat after training and socials de-stressed and positive no matter the mood I left it, and even if that made me a ‘netball girl’ it made me a happy one! If you want a fun and encouraging atmosphere to either exercise socially or really push your competitive side, give MN a go for sure!" - Naomi Carter (Global Sustainable Development) |
"Ever since they welcomed me with open arms in freshers week, I have become so attached to Mixed Netball! Everyone there is so supportive and you will always have someone to talk to who genuinely will listen to any problems. It also has the best balance between social and competitive netball as the drinking aspect is great but you can also compete in a national tournament!! There really is something for everyone in this society, whether you've never even picked up a netball or you have been playing for multiple years. It is such a wholesome society and I can't wait to see it grow and grow." - Imogen Harper (Politics)

"I joined Mixed Netball as a 2nd year student because I wasn't satisfied with myself during the 1st year. I had no prior knowledge or experience to what Netball was (at all!), but I was still warmly welcomed by the lovely exec and non-exec members. You don't have be to good at it to join(trust me I know XD), and the socials are great and varied! I was skeptical at first because of the pandemic, but everyone still managed to fun (safely) No regrets. Definitely happy that I gave it a shot! Whoever you are, you will be welcomed in the MN family " - Firas Mouharam |
"From my very first session at MN, I knew I’d be returning very quickly! Everyone there was so kind yet full of energy, and I was immediately welcomed by every member of the club. From then I knew this was where I’d make the most genuine friendships in my first year. Not only did I have so much fun at the training sessions, the socials were always the best and I met so many new people and made some of the best memories. I can’t wait to join MN again next year with the best bunch of people! " - Monique Wu (Economics) |
"Mixed netball is easily the most welcoming and friendly society I was part of in first year. The first training was so much fun and I met loads of lovely people. I was fully sold on MN for just its fun and exhausting trainings, but there is more! The socials are super well planned and you can tell the effort the social secs go to to make sure everyone is included. The thing that makes MN so special is how equally it caters for you no matter your netball background. The turn up sessions are as well planned as the Development sessions, so there is something for everyone!" - Alba O'Shaughnessy (Philosophy, Politics, Economics)
